FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS
Do you remember the Mervyn’s commercial – with the people standing outside waiting for the store to open, chanting OPEN OPEN OPEN while they peered inside the store?
That is what comes to mind when I think of FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS – in that same chanting style as I’m thinking of my to-do list and stuck in creating yet another reel and feeling guilty that I’m not doing something my husband invited me to do with him. Can you relate?
Our world is so full of distractions and it’s only getting worse. The news, social media – it’s hard to focus when everything is fighting for your attention. And sadly, this week has been no exception.
While I don’t stick my head in the sand with what is going on, I must quiet the noise for my own sanity. Our nervous systems simply were not built to handle the constant high alert status.
Where is God in it?
Right here… with you as you are reading and I am writing. But can we, do we, choose to turn to Him?
I truly believe each one of us has a purpose on this Earth. And I also truly believe that the enemy is doing all he can to distract us from that purpose.
In our prayer circle time in the membership group this week, we looked at Luke 10: 38-42. In summary – Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet listening. Martha, in her gift of hospitality, is preparing for the guests. Can you just picture it – you are in the kitchen, making all the things after cleaning up the house and getting ready for a special guest – and your sister is just sitting with the guest offering no help?! But Jesus encourages Martha to stop, come be present. The other things can wait. “…you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary for Mary has chosen the good part…”
Do you see those words in the scripture? Worried, bothered and anxious! Do they sound familiar?
Whether it’s cleaning the house, anxiety watching the news and scrolling social media, or worried about the next reel and why it’s not getting any download requests - how are you being distracted from the most important people or things in your life?
If you are reading this, you are most likely a woman entrepreneur. You are trying to grow a business, maybe you still have children at home, your significant other relationship needs attention …and time with God seems impossible and how can I even suggest it!
But here is the thing… if we don’t take time for quiet, stillness, calm, focus, silence, solitude, prayer – we are allowing the world around us to dictate our priorities rather than choosing “the good part”. I’m not immune to this either – just ask Mark! I can get caught up in all the things… until I remember that I didn’t put God first in that moment or morning. And when I do realize it – my breath becomes deeper, my body relaxes and my mind and sould can go to trust.
If you have a calling on your life (and I believe you do), the distractions will be immense. We have the ability to use our NO abundantly, IF we know, believe and are convicted of our strategic YESes. Do you know yours?
In a world where productivity is a definition of success, God values presence.
In a world full of distraction, God values devotion.
In a world full of hate, God values love.
Where will you focus today?
If you are distracted by “all the things”, I invite you to come away with us – to a full day event where your presence is requested so that you can be quiet, still and focus on what you are being called into next. Why? Because when we know it, believe it and become convicted in it, our YESes become powerful and our purpose becomes clear. You can get the details here!
